Dr. Michelle R. Willis is the Principal at Gillespie Technology Magnet ClusterSchool, one of our 2011 Serve-a-thon schools.

The Gillespie Tech family is thrilled about the face-lift Chicago Cares is going to give to our 100+ year old building on June 11th! Over 30 bland classrooms will become bright, cheerful, inviting, kid-friendly spaces. In addition, an inspirational mural will help transform the drab common areas into welcoming spaces that display our school spirit and pride.

This overwhelming and costly project would not be possible without the help of Chicago Cares. This welcome transformation is needed to emphasize and mirror the positive changes in our school climate and culture. As the school year winds down, the Gillespie Tech family is gearing up for the Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon. Our students are extremely excited about this event and are already anticipating seeing the new room colors that they helped to select.

Students will be able to start the 2011-2012 school year in their new, vibrant learning environment thanks to Chicago Cares! Each time our students walk into the building, they will be reminded that volunteers from Chicago Cares and the Gillespie community came together with energy and compassion to make their school a more appealing place. Thank you, in advance, to everyone who is showing our students that they are worth the work!
