We’re pleased to announce that Chicago Cares has been certified as a Service Enterprise by Points of Light.

What’s a Service Enterprise, you ask? A Service Enterprise fundamentally leverages volunteers and their skills across all levels of the organization to successfully deliver on its social mission. Research shows that for every $1 an organization invests in effective volunteer engagement, they can expect $3-$6 of value in return, so it’s worth the effort!

“At Chicago Cares, we’re all about volunteering,” said Rosie Drumgoole, director of ongoing volunteer programs. “In fact, we plan and execute projects for tens of thousands of volunteers every year. But for many years, we weren’t as focused on getting volunteers to help us inside our organization. Now, we’re intentionally using volunteers in various areas of our work, so we can deliver on our mission even more effectively.”

The Chicago Cares staff completed an extensive assessment, over 20 hours of training and consulting and extensive internal planning and change to better integrate volunteers in our day to day operations.

By achieving this level of expertise and certification, we’re now better equipped to leverage the time and talent of volunteers and better meet our mission to build a stronger, more unified Chicago.
